Working with Case Managers
Part 1: Purpose, Background, and Terms
Caregivers are the participant’s friends, family members, guardians, or
other “natural supports.” Depending on the participant’s preferences and
needs, caregivers might interact directly with case managers to obtain
needed services and supports for participants. Caregivers often support the
person with a disability in activities of daily living, such as showering,
dressing, or toileting; or they might help the participant live independently
by assisting with tasks such as preparing meals, managing money, or
shopping for groceries. Caregivers often include biological parents or
siblings, legal guardians, and foster parents.
