GOAL
#3
Aging Caregivers
As caregivers age, ensuring continuous and appropriate support for individuals
with I/DD becomes increasingly challenging. Many aging caregivers worry
about who will provide care when they are no longer able to do so. Limited
coordination between aging and developmental disability networks has also
created barriers to accessing necessary services.
The Council focused on fostering collaboration and research to identify and
address the needs of aging caregivers and their families.
Key Achievements:
Expanded Communities of Practice (CoPs) participation from 16 to 19
counties, facilitating collaboration between developmental disability and
aging networks.
Identified support needs, challenges, and available resources for aging
caregivers.
Advocated for legislative
changes that lowered the
age requirement for
certain support services
from 70 to 60.
